How to grocery shop to save time and money

“Americans spend an average of 46 minutes grocery shopping per trip” (USDA).
That’s too long, in my opinion. I want to get in and get out afap (as fast as possible). But, I also don’t want it to always be a dread. So here are a few ways to make navigating the grocery store easier, more efficient and more enjoyable:

Always plan your meals and then make your list accordingly. This way you will stick to the list and you won’t forget what you actually need.
Make your list according to the grocery store you’re going to shop at. For example, I write my list with the produce first because that’s where I start in my local store.
I’m sure you’ve heard this one before: try not to shop while hungry….this leads to compulsory purchases. I always keep a snack in my purse, like beef jerky, so that I can at least have some protein while I’m running errands.
Make it enjoyable for yourself…listen to a podcast, music, or sip on your favorite beverage (is wine allowed?….just kidding!).
Shop at lower traffic times, such as in the morning or later in the evening (it’s usually a ghost town in the grocery store at 8pm).
